Trusted Face Fit Testing Specialists
When respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is used in the workplace, ensuring it fits correctly is critical. If a mask fails to form a proper seal, workers may be left vulnerable to dust, fumes, fibres, and other harmful airborne particles.
Apex Health & Safety provides professional face fit testing designed to confirm that respiratory equipment is suitable for each individual wearer and performs as intended.
From single employees to full teams, we offer a dependable and efficient testing service across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, helping businesses stay compliant and maintain safe working practices.
What is Face Fit Testing?
Face fit testing is used to determine whether a tight-fitting respirator or face mask achieves a secure seal against the wearer’s face. Without this seal, even advanced respiratory protective equipment (RPE) may not provide effective protection in the workplace.
This process ensures that the chosen mask is appropriate for the individual using it and capable of performing as required in real working conditions.
Under Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance, employers are responsible for making sure that all users of tight-fitting RPE undergo face fit testing as part of their duty to protect workers and maintain compliance with safety regulations.
Why is Face Fit Testing Important?
An incorrectly fitted mask can allow hazardous airborne contaminants to bypass the filter and be inhaled by the wearer.
Face fit testing helps to:
-
Protect wearers from dust, fumes, fibres, vapours and airborne contaminants.
-
Meet HSE and COSHH requirements.
-
Reduce the risk of occupational illnesses.
-
Improve employee confidence and comfort.
-
Demonstrate compliance during inspections and audits.
